I'm getting soft and have decided that this year I will invest in some tights for my commute and for colder rides.
I like my Bib-shorts, so I am looking for bib-tights too.

Anyone got any recommendations? Budget has been set at about £50 by the wife...

Thermal or not? windproof or not? Last winter I managed with just a pair of shorts, but i've already had the red-ankle syndrome this year, so am fearing the worst for the coldest months.

And should I get some with foot loops or not??

I've found these Endura Roubaix thermal longs, they look quite good... and the endura overshoes I have are very nice...

At this price I think you might find quality & fit varies. I would go into one of the big shops & try on as many as necessary until you find the right fit. My own experience was that none of the cheaper brands gave a particularly satisfactory fit but finally managed to pick up a nice pair of Cannondale bib-tights that were reduced in price from Alpine Bikes.

Depends on your comute. I wear Endura 3/4 thermalites and they are very nice (mens though grrrr). It's only a 8 mile commute each way so socks pulled up are toasty (to cover up th shins).

Got some dhb Merston Bib Tights [£35] the other week, nice and warm - but have started to split after a few rides - needed to re-stitch!
I would avoid these.

You should have returned them as faulty and got a replacement pair.

I've been wearing mine from probably Oct / Nov through until March / April since 2006 and they're great. The stitching around parts of the pad has started coming away, but a quick visit to local clothing repair shop will probably put them right for a few quid.

Well worth the money, I'd say.

I'm very happy with my Decathlon roubaix ones. They were the cheapest model stocked, about £25 IIRC (about 2 years ago).
No foot loops, zipped ankles, decent padding. No special windproofing membranes or the like. Overshoes keep my feet warm if it's super-chilly.

Got my bibs from dhb/wiggle (£30ish) a few years back. Excellent value for money. No stirrups on them but never had a problem with them 'riding up' so to speak.

I've got two pairs of fleecy bib longs. One from Mike Dyason and one from probikekit. They're both good quality, have lasted two winters without problem and cheap. The Mike Dyason ones are the better fit, but I prefer the probikekit ones as they have foot loops.

I went fr the lusso Max Repel ones in the end, they look rather nice and will keep my knees warm by the looks of them.

Thanks for your helps,

YMMV - I wore mine last winter, and touch wood, they're still going strong. Bear in mind dhb sizing is small though - I'd usually take an L, and am an XL in dhb stuff.
