Hi, that'll be me. I'm new on this forum but occasionally post on bentrideronline and the CTC forum. I work out near Methven so you'll see me on the Giro 26 or on my ICE Sprint 26, come rain or shine!

Ahh yes that'll be me again with the trike and Veltop cover ^_^
I haven't used the Veltop much this year since we've not had much rain but it's good when it's chucking it down.

I got the trike from Laid Back Bikes - I've had it just under a year, and I got the Giro from WheelNV in March this year I think it was.

I used to ride with Perth United CC on a Trek Madone and latterly had a Focus time trial bike but I got a bit bored of all that and became rather intrigued by recumbents. I've always been keen to ride longer distances but found that 60-70 miles was my limit on a DF bike before discomfort set in. I'm finding the Giro as fast (or faster) than the Madone on the flat, it's only the uphills where the speed really suffers. The fun factor and the comfort of recumbents are real winners for me - I think it's fair to say I've been converted!

Should I be seeing you around Perth on a recumbent?

I do have a Volae high racer, very similar to your Giro, but I've not used it nearly as much as I'd like  . Been relying on a Boardman Cyclocross bike for commuting duties to Almondbank instead. If you are amenable to a recumbent scoot around Perth sometime that would be awesome. Afraid I'm far from Perth United CC performance levels at the moment though hehe

Hi...I've always wondered what its like going up steep bits in your style of machine? I imagine its a bit of an effort?

I'm the opposite, I haven't been on an upright bike since last December. I'm just back from a 128 mile ride on the Giro - went up to Blair Atholl then across to Kinloch Rannoch, round Loch Rannoch, down to Aberfeldy and back via the Sma' Glen and Glen Almond. The bike was great but the hill out of Kinloch Rannoch past Schiehallion and the one out of Aberfeldy were awful in the heat.

It would be good to meet up with another recumbenteer - Sunday afternoons often work well for me, otherwise perhaps an evening through the week? (I have two young daughters so riding time isn't always that forthcoming). I'll let you choose a route.

:hello: @AlanT82 and :welcome: to CycleChat ! :wahhey:

We're having a CC Ecosse Forum Ride from Perth on 3 August and I'm planning on brining my Nazca Fuego - though I will need to be given plenty of wobble-room on the twisty bits of the cycle path ! Still haven't worked out the slow-speed tight turn yet ...

You would be most welcome with either 'bent ! :hugs:
Sounds good but I'll need to check with my wife if we have anything on that day. It would be fun to ride alongside other recumbents - it's becoming a bit tiresome being a bit of a lone curio - I'm quite amazed that I haven't caused any crashes yet ^_^

Well... the Giro is quite a heavy bike - I've weighed it at 15.8Kg - how much effect that has I don't know but steep bits are definitely not fun. I try not to worry about it too much though and just gear down and spin away. Maintaining a straight course when crawling up a hill at 5mph is another challenge but it gets easier with practice.

The trike is another beast altogether - it's even heavier but there's no balance required of course so steep bits are still hard work but more relaxing in a way.

128 miles! Well done in this heat! Sundays are cool but can't make this sunday sadly. I'm free week nights, apart from thursdays but nothing I can't cancel. Open to suggestions on the route as I haven't really explored outside Perth much, sorry.

It certainly was hot - there were a few times when I realised that I am actually barking mad and should be content to lounge around with a cold drink when the weather's like this.

Re: meeting up, my legs probably won't be functioning tomorrow anyway so that's no problem. Weather actually looking a bit iffy through the week so maybe next Sunday if it's going to be dry?

Sounds good to me. Need to get some mudguards now...

The late Peter Ross could often be seen on a Trice, deckchair like with an ice cream

I have always fancied going a step further and getting a deckchair material seat for the summer

I did exactly that (the ice cream, not the deckchair material!) a week ago after riding the trike around Loch Katrine - I stopped at Aberfoyle for a 99 then sat down (on the trike of course) and watched all the tourists coming and going
