Lower! Lower!

Do I hear 20?

(Yeah, I know they are different. The 55 proposal is for motorways and the 30 is for single lane Nat Speed Limit).

I think those crazy roads that are unfit for 30, never mind 60 might be much of the argument for a mandated 30 limit.
Then, anything faster allowed would need a raised limit sign, thus increasing safety.

It is a petition.

Don't agree with a blanket 30mph limit. I sometimes exceed this on my bike!

But I think the 60mph limit should be reviewed. We have lots of "country" roads round here, where speed limits go from 30, to 50, to 40, to 60 etc. sometimes only a few miles between the different speed limits. It would be a lot safer to have consistency of speed limits, to avoid accelerating, then braking etc, to no real time gain.

I am unsure of the persons reasons but the petition misses putting the idea that 30 should be the default speed, not a bad idea in itself.
That way, you would need a 50 sign for permission to go faster, not the other way round, as is the case now.

Absolutely not, it's easy enough to exceed 30 on a pushbike, albeit downhill, and I don't want the ignominy of 3 point from cycling.

Speed limits are for motorised vehicles not push bikes

But they really should.
Oops, I bet I've upset the self entitled brigade again with that

Should there be. 30mph limit ......

Our evening 10's are run on a stretch which has a 40mph average limit on it. The fast riders, regularly return times of 21 or 22 mins. So not far off 30mph for the 10 miles. On the fast stretches they would easily break a 30 mph limit.

Signed. It would be good to see a debate about this, particularly relating to those (often twisty rural) roads where the current national speed limit applies. I can't help thinking the reduction in emissions, fuel costs (esp. with the recent price hikes) and costs associated with casualties would outweigh any costs associated with slightly longer journey times...
