Inthe 70's my school had racks for at least a 100 bikes.

And they were popular places round the back too. We just hung out in then when it was raining.

Oir school had one end of the playground with a building that was open at the front it was the bike shed. Iirc it had a big, wooden rack against the back wall. It was a large frame with vertical wooden bars at regular gaps for you to stick your wheel in. No nobody locked bikes back then.

My high school had no bike racks at all. Everyone there got to school by school bus or parents car. Later on at that school some also came in their own cars. The way things were to go I reckon. Still most took the buses like at my lads school but they come from 30 odd miles away so unlikely to get active travel that far.

Bike sheds at school were dual purpose in my day, they also served as a safe place to smoke during the day.

Ours were outside the kitchen, in the old block, windows. No chance of getting to them unseen. Unless you were willing to climb a 35 foot high retaining wall.

I was disappointed that in every shot of her with a bike Kim McGuinness had a helmet hanging from the handlebars. I don't care whether she wears one or not but if you're going to promote cycling as an ordinary day to day activity you should be showing that "helmet hair" isn't something to be ashamed of. So if you've got a helmet put it on and wear it for the photoshoot.

Or when wearing one, it's the correct way round and the chinstrap is fastened.

The one where I used to work did
I locked my ebike in it while I was at work!

do be honest there were not that many other bikes there
a few scooters but only one or two actual bike - plus mine

When I pick the grandkids up from school I drive
but then I have to because it is quite a way from where they live (not my idea!!)

but, although the parents are not too bad - there is a lot of competition for the car parking nearest to the school
I just don;t bother and drive right past it andmost of the way up the next road and park there

it does mean that I can get away from all the others more easily once I get the kids

but I reckon most of the people picking kids up in cars are from within what I would call walking distance
if the otehr grand mother picks them up then she just walks there and walks them back
and I would think she probably lives further away than most of the people driving!

We have a person specially appointed to look at cycling stuff

Simon O'Brian - of Brookside "fame" or so I'm told
I have only seen him on Find It Fix It Flog It
he seems to do naff all for the Liverpool City Region except for photo call about once a year


mind you - most people in the Liverpool City Region seem to forget we are part of it most of the time anyway!

Don't even go there. Total nightmare.
We don't have the money to fix the leaky roof or dodgy toilets.

Who will stop the Y.Ms mowing down the cycling classes with their "Tactical Vehicles"?
People complain when we ask them to switch off their engines whilst they lurk outside school
Response: " the aircon doesn't work if I switch the engine off"

It was something to do with active travel in Northumberland or North Tyneside. Maybe the Whitley Bay to Tynemouth stretch? To be fair she wasn't actually riding it, just standing holding it.
