Who do you see on your route and why do you notice them?

Prompted by spotting the very nice bloke who helped pick me up when I was knocked off, we always said hello before as he's a very cheerful sort, but today he was in civvies and walking from the bus stop but I still recognised him and was able to shout "where's yer bike?"

I see one particular guy (going the opp. way) fairly regular when coming through Hardy's farm near Sale Water Park Come rain or shine he's on the racer. He's black and I suspect I recognise him because he stands out from the crowd.

I used to bump into another guy who we would often pace each other but I've not seen him for a long time.

Is it me or are there more cyclists about in the last week or so? Saw a lot out on Sat and there were quite a few commuters out this morning.

Do not see too many in Swindon especially going my way, I saw a few more this morning than usual especially more than during the ice/snow we just had, not surprisingly
The two sort of regulars I see, as in I have seen them three times each in the past three months, are a woman on a nice looking Specialzed hybrid and a guy on a MTB who never looks behind whilst negotiating a 40mph four lane roundabout.

I only see one other regular cyclist on my commute we have been exchanging salutations for the best part of 18 months or so. All I know is that he cycles from the direction of Pitscottie to the train station in Cupar.

I see a few regulars...

One young lady who works at the Sailing Academy (I guess) - smiling acquaintance.
One gent on a hybrid with whom I always exchange a smile and a cheery good morning or abuse about head lamp brightness
One not so gent in loads of ScotchBrite + HiVis who only curses the magicshine brightness - I guess he wishes he wasn't a regular (or that I wasn't)

There is a doctor who I see regularly on my route (he's the doctor of a friend of mine who once pointed him out as he passed me), whether he has made that connection or not we regularly see each other and wave at each other - always going the opposite direction. My children think it's odd because I know his name etc but yet I have never met him.

There's a few I see on the train regularly:

1. Older chap on a proper old school steel tourer with dynamo lights and downtube shifters. Once caused amusement/embarassment by loudly commenting on my 'magnificent helmet' in front of a load of passengers.

2. The stereotypical 'hybrid commuter' guy - decent alu/carbon flat barred hybrid, dayglo jacket and jeans, terrible lights.

3. The young Eastern-European guy on the most horrendous looking BSO ever - full sus unbranded THING that he can hardly lift.

4. The snobbish mamil on various expensive looking road bikes who once loudly commented that he wouldn't be seen on THAT after a friend of his asked if my bike was his (I'm aware of the irony of me saying this after post 3!).

5. The VERY attractive young woman on a white Allez who sadly has disappeared since it started getting cold.

I see a few regulars but not to speak to. The exception is one guy who it turned out lives nearby me, rides about the same time and we always chat if we meet for a couple miles till i turn off.
He fairly goes for it on a hybrid, and before we spoke there was always this bit of commuter racing between us. Dont cross paths often enough tho...nice fella.

See plenty of regulars on my commute, far too many to count.
Speak to 2 of them on a regular basis, a few more just a hi.

Theres an old chap on an electric bike that seems to be out all the time, riding up and down the same stretch of road. We always say hello then we go through the little ritual of racing up the short hill... Sometimes I win... Well once.

They've been missing for a couple months but I often I meet a nice couple riding a tandem on my way home most nights. Also a man on a blue dawes with downtube shifters who I always pass and say hello on the long shallow hill and he returns the compliment (and scalp) on the shorter steep hill later on

Given that I've been doing the same route for about 18 months at the same time, give or take 10 minutes, I'm surprised not to see any more regulars than the one lady I see (and mutually greet) en route from Hatch End to Neasden once or twice a week.

It always surprises me how many commuters (got to be commuters because who else is out riding in the dark on a wet weekday morning at 7am?) don't let on or even make eye contact. I always try to give a nod or a little raise of the hand if it is not appropriate to say a hello or morning.
