It always surprises me how many commuters (got to be commuters because who else is out riding in the dark on a wet weekday morning at 7am?) don't let on or even make eye contact. I always try to give a nod or a little raise of the hand if it is not appropriate to say a hello or morning.
I pass the same older woman (in the opposite direction) most mornings and again in the evenings. For weeks, I'd say "hello", and she'd blank me. I kept doing it because each time it, without fail, it would make me chuckle.
