Dan,
This driver has just been in to the office. He missed the appointment on Wednesday. He was absolutely floored by the footage as he could not recount the incident. I did ask him if he could not remember the incident, is this his normal action when on a roundabout. It has been pointed out to him that if this was reported to the police, he may have ended up with points on his licence, and this would have resulted in an appearance in front of our Regulation and Review Committee.
I have issued him with a written warning which will stay on his file. He wished me to pass on his apologies which I said I would do, but did point out that did not lessen the effect of his actions. I also pointed out that a pedal cycle has just as much right to be on the road as a car, and that polite driving, patience and good manners are what are expected of a professional driver as well as adhering to the Road Traffic Act.
I hope you have no more problems with our vehicles and have a good Christmas.

I have to admit, when just watching the video for the first time I was waiting for the incident to happen.. still waiting.. oh, that was it. Not sure I would have personally bothered chasing that one up, but personal choice and all that.

That said, it's good to see a reply from a firm that actually takes the quality of their employees driving seriously!

This was not the company. This was the licensing authority within North Tyneside council.

If you're questioning the validity in the complaint then I would disagree. IMO that was an incident worth reporting to the PCO as it might be indicative of a lack of understanding on how to drive around cyclists. At the very least the driver can learn something from it and improve - no vehicle operator should undertake like that on such a stretch of road

Oh my god.

I'm sorry for being judgemental, but some people need to get a sense of perspective. To me, while that video is up for interpretation, there is nothing wrong with what that driver did.

He took the initiative as a cyclist was indecisive.
Its hard to take the initiative when a 1 ton car is undertaking just saying......

Not questioning the validity of the complaint at all, merely saying that if I reported every road user who inconvenienced me through bad driving (which is pretty much what we see here - Dan appeared to be aware of the vehicle at all times and in no real danger) then I'd be spending far too much of my time reporting people.

Unless the op had is arm out to indicate he was pulling off the rab then imo he was badly placed for the taxi to be expected to be aware of his intentions. In this situation I doubt the taxis actions would have been different had the op been a slow moving car.

The point of the complaint was that i was in the mist of changing lane. The taxi then rushed past me. However at the time i was indicating to him so i only had one hand on the bar... This in turn reduced my ability to turn and i did adjust so i did not hit him.

In between here and there
No disrespect, but if I had a camera, and if I reported every incident similar to this then I would need a secretary to keep track of the comms. Three reasons for me to carry on not having any cameras. 1. It makes any aggro last for ages. 2. it would be tempting to report every one, extending the stress of it even further. 3. and finally number three having it dissected by a tit like me on cycling fora..
