So :smile:!!! Just got an email from my work to be told that the bike shelter is being removed and taken to another office to be used as a smoking shelter!! Apparently, we something will be retained to lock bikes to and, if possible, another sheltered area will be found.

This is all due to cost as it is cheaper to relocate a shelter than buy new.

Obviously, I work for a company which would reather promote smoking than cycling!!

I would certainly kick up a fuss on that one and if they do not change their mind get your local paper involved, ffs putting smoking before cycling :biggrin:!

You need to start chaining your bike in a place most likely to inconvenience the boss.

You'll soon get a new shelter.

How many people use the shelter? (for bikes, not smoking!)

Kick up a right fuss - and get other users involved. I'd not provide any shelter for smokers - most companies make it as hard as possible these days for smokers..

Get Health and Safety involved....

I don't personally think cycling is promoted anyway at our work. No cycle to work scheme, no showers and now no bike shelter. Like you said, I may have to take up smoking!!

It's obviously because it's "less than 1%" of the office that use the bike shelter.

And when I mentioned I wouldn't like to be leaving my bike out in all weathers, the reply was:

"I would also point out that bikes are ridden in all weathers, and so storage shouldn't be as large an issue".

As if I didn't know that I could ride in all weathers! I already do!!!!!!!!!!

Ask the sender if they would prefer to garage their car when not in use.

The sad fact is that an employer is duty bound to provide smoking facilities, but not cycling facilities. It's PC gawn mad I tells ya!

What facilities are employers legally obliged to provide then to cater for our cancer sticked friends ?

Bad luck there, adam. We used to have a bike rack and showers but both have now been taken away. Bring the bike inside, locked at the bottom of a stairwell or something, possibly...

No idea, possibly not legally obligated, but it certainly seems to be the norm.
