Nope they should do what the others did Toyota/Lexus, Nissan/Infiniti, Fiat/Ferrari Ford/Aston Martin BMW/Bentley have all done

I think they had little choice. Ever declining profitability and market share, strategic partnership with Nissan ending...merge or die.

Ive little sympathy, considering the damage to life, limb and the environment that the motor trade is responsible for in the name of profit. The gravy train couldn't run forever.

Looks like we all agree .
Over the years they have made some cracking cars which an awful lot have been plagued by reliability and quality issues .

There's a general feeling that Nissan has fallen off a cliff re reliability, quality since Renault got involved...bodes well if that were the case.

I would argue that aside from a few models such as the later version of the Sunnny, the Bluebird, etc, Nissan have never rivalled their fellow Japanese nrands in the reliability stakes.

Not so sure, to be honest. The Micra for example was incredibly reliable and there were lots more 'modern' Nissans since the the days of the Bluebird and Sunny that were reliable.

Renault, on the other hand...

One of my step brothers is a Nissan tech. He was an MG-Rover tech before the brand went breasts skyward 15 odd years ago, and he briefly worked at a Vauxhall dealership before getting a job at a Nissan dealers, where hes been ever since.

He reckons the Rovers were better made and a lot less hassle than Nissan. The Nissan dealer makes its bread and butter on the warranty work, would be pretty stuffed if it were a more reliable brand. He says the brand basks in some of the reflected shine from the likes of Honda and Toyota in the eyes of the public simply because theyre Japanese (although only the GT-R is made there), but in reality is no better than the average mass market brand - not the worst, but underserving of any pretensions of 'quality'or reliability beyond the norm.
