I bought a 26 inch CRT in 2005 for £50 just to watch Floyd on Live 8. I finally gave it away to a workmate last year - not bad for £50 and initially six months guarantee

. Anyway, now have 55 inch LED 3D telly. My verdict, great for HD nature documentaries, 3D movies. HD channels OK. My working week now ends with
Gardeners World on BBC2 HD Fridays - some plants are astonishing in full HD. Did find it, like blu-ray, a bit 'hyper real' ie. you can see all the pin-sharp detail in everything from across the room. However, I've got used to it. 3D still feels a bit gimmicky. It's not bad, just over-rated. Just 2D Hi-Def looks great.
Smart TV sometimes useful in a bit of web surfing if I can't be bothered to switch on the desktop (no tablet for me just yet). On the whole, pleased with my TV. LED or LCD better than plasma, IMHO.
One fun thing I like to do now is use the smart function on the blu-ray player to watch Youtube videos. It's hooked up to the surround speakers so you get the full sound of things. I road-tested the system by watching a few space shuttle launch clips in HD. Phew!....

That thing is loud when it goes up.
So yes, go ahead and get one. You'll eventually find that you do more with it than you did your old telly.
