Yeah, but I wasn't replying to the OP, I was replying to your post and trying, but obviously failing, to be amusing. Odd site indeed, or at least odd place to be comparing televisions, perhaps nurses need to know these things.

Our Sony CRT was dying and we went into JL High Wycomb and they were excellent in terms of service. One thing we found is to get TV's set-up properly AND on the same setings for comparison. Don't watch demos, you need live sport or similar or outdoor stuff reallysee the differences.
We went for a 42" Samsung in the end (with highest 'resolution/refresh rate whatever), best picture in our opinion (from JL's range) PLUS it comes with BBC 1plaer, ITV player 4oD, 5 Player all built in ( Most TVs do BBC - only Samsung do all the others). No regrets, it's amazing, possibly too life-like! Sport in HD is unbelieveable, Moto GP and the Americas cup are astonishing.
Also it interacts with the Samsung phones and laptop we have too.

Would I go back to CRT ... no way.

I agree with what you say but you still need to be careful with buying smart My Plasma is Samsung and is great but its not a smart one so when Comet closed down I got a Samsung Smart BR Recorder in the sale to go with it but only BBC iplayer until this week when they added 4OD and you can`t get ITV player on the web due to needing a later version of flash that cant be downloaded, however other models of Samsung TV`s and BL have as you say got all of them so check before buying.

The phone apps work on other makes of Phone as well as Samsung I use HTC its great to play your Photoes Videos and Music over WiFi straight from the phone tn the TV.

I have a 32" sharp aquos that i paid over 2.5 grand for 13 years ago, it gets replaced when it blows up.... Although we move to a bigger house soon with another room downstairs which may well become a bit of a man cave so i can feel a 50" on the cards Go for it i say.

Also have a Aquos. 37". Was top of the range when bought 8 years ago, cost a bloody arm and a leg.
A brilliant TV. No way does it look it's age. The picture is just as good now as when I originally bought it.

I bought an flatscreen LG off ebay for £40 when my CRT blew up. Really nice picture quality.

OT, but my Samsung smart tele is a few years old now. Now, what is the process for adding the ITV Player ?

I'm not that interested in road racing, but having ITV4 on demand could be handy

As a nerd, I was an early accepter to these flat TV's. I bought a Hitachi 42" Plasma, 8 years later still fine. Watching black books on it now.

Yeah, that was part of why I went for an expensive 32" as it had - at the time - the extra 100Mhz refresh for action/sport/nature stuff.

I bought a 26 inch CRT in 2005 for £50 just to watch Floyd on Live 8. I finally gave it away to a workmate last year - not bad for £50 and initially six months guarantee. Anyway, now have 55 inch LED 3D telly. My verdict, great for HD nature documentaries, 3D movies. HD channels OK. My working week now ends with Gardeners World on BBC2 HD Fridays - some plants are astonishing in full HD. Did find it, like blu-ray, a bit 'hyper real' ie. you can see all the pin-sharp detail in everything from across the room. However, I've got used to it. 3D still feels a bit gimmicky. It's not bad, just over-rated. Just 2D Hi-Def looks great.

Smart TV sometimes useful in a bit of web surfing if I can't be bothered to switch on the desktop (no tablet for me just yet). On the whole, pleased with my TV. LED or LCD better than plasma, IMHO.

One fun thing I like to do now is use the smart function on the blu-ray player to watch Youtube videos. It's hooked up to the surround speakers so you get the full sound of things. I road-tested the system by watching a few space shuttle launch clips in HD. Phew!.... That thing is loud when it goes up.

So yes, go ahead and get one. You'll eventually find that you do more with it than you did your old telly.

....thing is I have it all linked to my pc for streaming and get all the on demand stuff so functionally not missing anything. Not sure.

Had to buy a new TV when the 28" CRT exploded (yes, loud bang and smoke) in 2008.

It's 32" LCD, branded Mirai, and is basically used as a monitor for the Freesat box (which also does iPlayer and ITV player and a few more), laptops for Blinkbox, and the DVD and blueray machines. It has worked immaculately since unpacking it.

Picture quality on HD sources is better than CRT, upscaled SD is at least as good as the CRT set, BUT raw SD is not as good as the old CRT set was.

If the 28" widescreen CRT set was still working I wouldn't replace it with a current one until it failed. It the present one fails then in the absence of 28" sets I'd get a 26" one as I think the 32" one is too big for a living room.
