Hi all. Sad circumstances in that I've had my second Croix de Fer 20 stolen. Despite fact its on gumtree for £100 I'm kind of thinking police aren't going to get anywhere if they haven't already. Those frustrations deserve a thread all of their own.
So, anyway, I'm torn between
What will I use it for? Well, day to day stuff, winter road cycling (have a carbon road bike already, albeit not high end), the odd trail (but nothing too technical as I have an mountain bike if I really need it). What does it need to do that the road bike and mt bike can't? Multi day bikepacking tours - 2 to 3 day probably - with or without a rack. Only thing that is steering me away from the CdF (other than a feeling its the safe option) is I thought maybe good to get something a bit lighter but sturdy enough for the above. As you might have guessed, steel is what I've been thinking.
If got the Eq disc (which has Fulcrum Racing Sport wheels as stock) I'd probably need to get stronger wheels, 4 season disc have been recommended. My thinking is I could swap in the stock wheels and the new wheels with knobblies/slicks on each respectively. But is Eq disc just the wrong bike for my needs, even with swapped out tyres?
So, anyway, I'm torn between
- another CdF 20 or 30 (hoping to get previous MY for a discount!)
- an Equilibrium Disc 30 on sale in my LBS for c1500
- or going crazy and getting a Shand Stoater, and tell myself I deserve it even if I can't afford it.
