Replacing a triple outer chainring with double?

Earlier in the year I bought a double 46T chainring for my Thorn Club Tour by mistake, not realising this would be slightly wider than the triple it was to replace.

Is there likely to be a problem using the wider outer chainring other than sitting a bit proud by maybe 0.2mm? Both chainrings are Shimano SG—X
Thanks

Barnet,
The obvious thing is that the front mech will/might need to be adjusted, probably by the limit screw.
I'm sure someone will come along with a more substantial view.

I didn't know chainrings for doubles are a different width than those for triples, and have often swapped rings between bikes without problems.

AI also doesn't know of different chainring widths.

Maybe I have misunderstood your question. Sorry.

I'm reading this as you've procured a 46t chainring to replace the current outer (of triple) chainring.
And the replacement is very slightly 'wider' - you've measured it as 0.2mm.
The chainline, when fitted will be the same or, at most, 0.1mm (half of 0.2) further out.
Frankly neither you nor anyone will notice. Ingen problem.
