Is there a website were you can report bad junctions before an accident occurs? Other problems include; Pinch points, dodgy positioned manhole covers etc..

I am aware of the ones where you can report potholes and broken street furniture problems, but not badly designed junctions. you know the ones where the lanes go from 2 lanes to 1 small lane in a short space of time!

No there isnt. Redesigning junctions is a very costly affair and for the councils involved, it is more cost effective to let people come a cropper every now and then.

You can report problems to your local authority highways dept. online or by phone. Or at least, you can here in West Dorset.
All comments and complaints are responded to. Getting a junction redesigned is a tall order of course, but numerous complaints and a local press campaign saw a whole roundabout redesigned in nearby Weymouth.

You could try reporting it to the council and to any local cycle lobbying groups.

I know there was an online map for me locally but that's going back quite a few years, and it's no-longer available. It was interesting to see what was reported as some see things differently, but equally you could tell from the numbers of reports at certain locations that it was a real problem area. The council usually compile accident records but I'm not sure where they get that information from, I've only seen the map produced from the data, and really it would be nice to prevent the accident occurring in the first place.

Perhaps speak to your local cycle activist group, e.g. LCC in London, CTC nationwide. Your council might also have a cycling spokesperson, go to their surgery, write them a letter

I tried to get Rotherham council to redesign a cross roads to a roundabout which would have resolved the danger issues, it had the added effect of slowing the drivers entering a 30mph at excessive speed, they rejected the idea by telling me that if they did more people would use the route & it would become a 'rat run' so far I have seen 2 accidents, know of another 3, but as yet no-one has died so it's not important.

Yes, after the roundabout was redesigned the 2012 Olympics funding saw it changed again, into the strangest traffic light controlled junction I've ever seen, non intuitive lane markings and positioning, 2 lanes merging into 1 shortly after the lights. But it seems to work quite well. In a car.

I assume we're talking about the same Abbotsbury Road, Westwey Road, Weymouth Way interchange? Now there's an example, along with the Newstead Rd junction (also thanks to Olympics funding), which defies change in the face of widely reported public opinion of a negative nature.

At the same time, there's now some excellent cycling infrastructure in the area generally.

it's a shame that you have to wait for an incident to happen until it's recorded and flagged up. I was hit from the side when a car failed to give way at some 'give way' lines and wasn't going to report it at first. But then thought? if I don't report it, then it never happened?

One particulalry bad junction where I have to take the lane quite early on in Mitcham, South London, where the road narrows drastically before going back to a three lane speed fest after that. For me on a road bike that's do-able. But for other slower/older/younger riders it must be like a white knuckle ride!

as well as all the above, contact your MP as well, like everyone else, I wouldn't hold your breath - the most successful way I've found is to report something, and wait for the "sighs and computer says no response" before responding, "well I hope that a small child, doesn't get injured, 'cos now I've reported it, It will make a cracking story in the local paper."
Manipulative I know, but....

Contact Croydon LCC, they are very active and have been undertaking a massive roads audit in the borough.
Indeed I'm sure they'd welcome you on the committee if a Croydon resident

I'm involved in the Sutton group, don't think we cover Mitcham  Merton are also an active bunch

I hope you reported the prang you had to the police and the drivers insurer

I have filed a report on Fix My Street about an accident waiting to happen on a cycle path blind spot, which I'd had a few close shaves but the final straw was meeting a toddler on a sit on toy coming the opposite way. I never know if my report had an effect but a month or so later they removed the veg and railings that made it quite so bad. It's still not perfect but better than it was.

London is of course easier as regards route choices but there's lots of junctions and roads I avoid or avoid sometimes, you can;t expect the road network to be designed to suit cyclists imho, some people complain bitterly about roads and bridges that I see nothing wrong with at all

I almost never use cycle paths because I think they're inherently unsafe, not least due to the interaction with pedestrians
