some time ago I purchased one of these mirrors http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bike-Eye-...030433?hash=item20d563a3a1:g:h54AAOSw7ThUkBbB

i thought at the time it was a great idea having the mirror out of harms way fitted to the frame BUT what I didn't like and couldn't get used to was having to take my eyes off the road to look down at the mirror, not safe imo.

So i had a bit of a think and then took the mirror apart and discovered it was fully reversible left to right and the mirror could go on the mount either right way up or upside down, i then attached the fitting bracket to my right hand side handlebar and mounted the mirror upside down on the inside of the bar to avoid damaging the mirror when storing the bike in my shed, it works a treat and now i can look past my right thigh and get a better view of the road with just a glance at the mirror.
I can still go down on the drops and reach the brake without fouling the mirror.
I thought i would post this in case anyone else was thinking they had wasted their money on one of these mirrors.

I have one of them and I like your idea but although you say you can reach the brake, can you squeeze it properly?

yes my thumb goes over the post that the mirror is mounted on so effectively the mirror mounting is in the palm of my hand, I have been out and road tested it for that very reason, I wanted to make sure I could brake properly and my hands didn't foul the mirror, I was wearing sealskin gloves on the road test.

I have the same mirror Steve. I tried it in the same position but preferred it on the downtube as when on the bars the vibration affected the image in the mirror. Not only that but on the bars you lose one of your hand positions. I know what you mean about taking your eyes off the road but i always check ahead before glancing down for a second. If it's safe look down, if not wait.
