Research on cycling in London

Question 6,you say about accidents and you want details and as I have had too many accidents to mention what sort of accident do you want?

Generally mine have been of the falling off variety.

Nope. I've had one accident when I've remained on the bike, and on two wheels.

Thanks for posting that Lee. It is a bit shocking that well over half of cyclists have had accidents tho' I sppose the figures mightn't be that different for drivers. I was a bit surprised to see the figure for 'caused by a car' so high. I've had two 'blood crashes' in the six or seven years I've been riding regularly, both 100% solo efforts. (Having said which, the second was a pothole after dark, so I guess that's not entirely my fault.)

But I can honestly say, without wishing to tempt fate, that I've never come close to having an accident caused by a driver. Some do peanut things...I guess I've become attuned to the presence of many peanuts out there, so I make allowances. I do see cyclists quite often riding in a sort of 'I know my rights' way - in relation to peds, cars, whoever - which always strikes me as a bit daft. Not that I'm exonerating the peanuts...but if you're on a bike and they're in control of a ton & a half of steel...discretion, valour, that sort of thing...

Interesting stuff Lee. You are going to make a product to encourage cycling in London. From your blog you say you are becoming interested in safety. This being a concern for 75% of non cyclists and 25% of cyclists. I am curious will your product be aimed at drivers of vehicles or at cyclists/potential cyclists? Have you read this?

I should say am not a cyclist in London but would like to see more cyclists in my home town.
