One thing is for certain, the time an Amber aspect is displayed never changes, its always 3 seconds for stop and 2 seconds for go.
I thought the 'stop' amber phase depended on the speed limit for the road? So a 70mph road has a longer amber stop phase than a 30mph one?

No, this is fixed by altering the type and location where the vehicle detection is for speeds over 40MPH and varying inter-green times.
The 3 sec Amber is always what it is else there is a risk of drivers becoming confused with how long it should be.

I sent a follow up email to TFL today. I may be wasting my time but I don't want to let this drop. Its infuriating.

I sent them some links to some prime examples of RLJing on Bow Roundabout - I got bored as there are so many.

Even TFL buses are getting in on the act:

I've decided not to let this lie and have also contacted the LCC and Road.cc about this. I might not get anywhere but I'm going to try.

A further update:

Dear Mr Redpath

Thank you for contacting us again on 30 September 2014 regarding red light jumping at Bow Roundabout, and for including the video footage of the traffic. Please accept my apologies for the delay in relying whilst we looked into this matter further.

Transport for London (TfL) works in partnership with the Metropolitan Police Services (MPS) and City of London Police to crack down on anti-social and illegal road-user behaviour, such as red light jumping. I can now confirm that Bow Roundabout is being monitored as part of Operation Safeway.

Operation Safeway was launched last year; the operation, which originally lasted seven weeks, saw around 2,500 MPS officers at 170 key junctions across the Capital during rush hour, enforcing the rules of the road and providing safety advice. Operation Safeway now happens monthly and will continue into the winter months.

We acknowledge your request for cameras and improvements to the traffic light phasing at Bow Roundabout. This has been passed to our strategy and planning team who will investigate deterrent options for drivers going through red traffic light at this junction.

Thank you again for brining your concerns about Bow Roundabout to our attention.

Please contact me again if you need any further assistance, or if you would prefer to talk to us about this matter, please call us on 0343 222 1234.

all that means is we get a PCSO telling us to wear Hi Viz and a helmet. they are not interested in actual road safety. they were at the commercial road mile end road junction a few weeks ago. no interest in sorting out the mayhem 200 yds back as you turn the corner from aldgate . more interested in telling me I should wear hi viz rather than a black top . I asked if black cars should have hi viz Jackets but she just smiled as she knew she was on a hidng to nothing

Hi again @Luke Redpath - well done on getting this response, which although not everything you would wish is still a step in the right direction. Maybe you could write to the Strategy and Planning team now they have been alerted! And although I'm not surprised at @subaqua 's pessimism about Operation Safeway, I think you are doing good work and I hope you make a difference.

Hmm I could take that two ways. I think i know what you mean. and yes the more people that make a noise the better. but I don't want segregation . I nearly got wiped out on the segregated bit closer to stratford last night by a van that overtook me and then turned left with no signals. had it not been segregated I would not have been put in that position as i would have been in PRIMARY

I do think you're right about Op Safeway - being seen to be doing something but actually pandering to motorists' prejudice that it's the cyclists' fault if anything goes wrong. But I hope Luke gets something more substantial done and that the cameras do get installed. I agree segregation has its own issues - and I also think your main issue last night was that the van driver was a bad driver who wasn't even taking notice of a segregated path and should probably be re-educated. Sorry to hear about the incident btw.
