Resteraunt seating Nazis- (contains ranting) .....

I used to stay at the Stirling Highland Hotel, when attending training events in connection with work. They had a strange idea that if you were eating on your own, they would place you at a table against a wall, along which there were several other tables laid out for one. So anyone else coming in would see a row of people eating on their own. It was so bad other diners were heard to comment. Needless to say, I use another hotel now, where you choose where to sit - so much better.

Well that's true enough, but the unspoken question is why do restaurant staff think their owners would not like them to take money from customers? More than that, create ill will?
Slo'mo's got it. People who work in restaurants are treated badly by customers and management alike. The crazy levels of staff turnover are testament to that.
Yes, but in fairness, waiters in France don't get paid the degrading wages that they do in other countries, and they can be just as unreasonable.
We met one in Fontainebleau, we wanted a snack and after seating us he insisted on moving us to another table, 'as this table is for meals'. We spent a lot of money and when l' addition arrived I counted out the exact amount into his hands, no tip. I laughed out loud as we left as the poor guy was struck dumb!

Whilst I don't disagree with the poor treatment and the lot of the staff, the Table Nazi mentality surely comes from management rather than the waiters unless the waiters are being particularly jobsworthy. Why should the waiters care where you sit unless they're ordered to do it from above? I can understand the need to optimise seating but only when the place is getting busy.

They also clear the table there and have the next folk seated before you've moved away from the table.

Foods not that special either.

there's a mexican restaurant of cockburn street in edinburgh where mrs alecetc and i turned up at 1930 on spec for a table for two. they told us we might have to move at 2030, but we fancied the food so just went for it. when the waiter started hovering, we ordered another bottle of wine and dessert, and no more was said…

So you went 83 years ago and they said you'd have to clear off after 100 years?
