Growing Old is Compulsory...Growing Up is Optional
Last weekends job was to apply the new livery & clean out the BB & rear derailleur hanger threads, all done, next step between Xmas & New Year drop into a mate's workshop & give the new decals a light coat of laquer. Once that's done & dried the rebuild begins.

Eventually found a window of opportunity in my mates workshop to get the new livery lacquered last weekend. So, today the build began, first up BB Cups & Brakes. Will be building the drivetrain in over the weekend....weather permitting!

69, & my GP says I will officially be old at 70!

So, I bought this bike about a month ago, got it home, stripped the old components off, & took it down to a local guy to get it powder coated, am super happy with the results so far. No apologies about the colour btw, I love stealth black bikes, hey ho, that's just me :-) PS. The entire Exage Groupset/Build Kit available for sale if anyone's got an old steel frame needing a late 80's groupset/build kit. Reply here or dm me.

That looks cool - a real retro-modern synthesis!

The sidewalls of the tyres are two of the necessary dashes of colour - and spot on to make a good contrast without being obtrusive.
Do you plan to add a matching saddle or bar tape?

Oh yes, matching collar & cuffs is happening, watch this space, hoping to get the build finished this weekend & then tinker with dialing the electronic gears in next week :-)

Sorry don't get ran sidewall tyres tbh.

Much better grey tyres and a nice flite saddle!

Drivetrain fitted, next up finishing kit & then torque everything up, hope to get that done this weekend, then all that's left to do is get my tech head on and index the electronic gearing (with a lot of help from the oz cycle youtube tutorial!)

Thanks @davester65 - found the photo with new old stock Dura-Ace brake levers, a tiny Raleigh saddle bag plus period bottle cages. It rides beautifully:

Cost-wise it was probably about £700, so nowhere near yours. I'd be interested in how effective the Wheel top system is.

The costs easily rack up, my preferred method is to try and buy a complete donor bike rather than source individual components.

The Carlton professional I actually made a small profit on. The Ribble 653 I built a few years ago from sourcing stuff off eBay I struggled to break even on.
