Thanks for all the advice. I have just had fifteen 17 year olds round for my daughter's birthday, should have taken OH advice before doing that!

I will make phone calls tomorrow when I go in and let you know how I get on. I will be pushing for a proper assessment based on advice here.

Even sat at home on a sofa then dining chair is causing a great deal of discomfort so I must get this right.

The children at school do think it's cool I broke myself in a cycling accident. They all think it must have been great fun walking round all day on crutches! I hope they never find out how wrong they are!

Thanks for the good wishes, I have agreed that I will work from home semi-regularly during the first few weeks to ensure I don't destroy myself. I'll also be doing shorter days as necessary.

IME (and IIRC I had a similar break to you), the discomfort will reduce, but even now 14 months later, it still catches me out if the leg is not supported properly. The pain is generally in the dynamic hip screw, but can be one of the screws holding the rod in place, so it is really important to get assessed and not to guess which chair will be suitable.

Thank you all so much, the information here is invaluable.

As a starting point I have organised an assessment now with the OH team. I should hear back from them within a couple of days. I shall probably then be able to get buying. It may well also help me find something for home as even the sofa hurts at the moment.

The standing desk is new to me as well, will look into that and mention it if OH don't.

Thanks again!

You might, with a lot of ringing around, be able to get a decent office chair from is a 2nd hand office equipment dealer.

In places like London they often clear out large office blocks of hundreds of employees as it is easier and cheaper for the company to buy new desks and chairs for the new office and leave the old desks and chairs to the dealers.

A lot of what they get is sometimes almost brand new and that can include specialist chairs that belonged to ex members of staff or to people who had recovered, or to people that got the wrong chair.
