I am about to start cycling to work, just bought my bike, now I need the safety equipment!
I was looking for reviews on helemts so the first place I went to was Which.com but to my surprise they don't have a single review on bike helmets!
Does anybody know of any websites that have reviews of bike helmets or cycle clothing?

Thanks all

Bikeradar has a few - one of the problems with helmets is that they're quite a personal thing in terms of fit. I favour Specialized myself, although others swear by the fit of Giro or Bell. This is one case where there's no real substitute for getting to a good shop and trying some on.

Bear in mind that the helmet needs to fit so that the brim is low on your forehead (the guy that fitted mine suggested the best test of this to be whether you can see the brim at the top of your vision - if not, it's too high). After fit, considerations tend to be weight and ventilation. I'd suggest looking for removable foam pads, and enough room in the fit to be able to wear a liner or cycle cap underneath in colder weather.

I'd try loads on and see which fits best...and which makes you look least like an alien

I too have a specialized one - i think mine's a bloke's one actually. It's black and matt..but isn't pink and floral which was pretty much the only option available to girls.

I have a Lazer Genesis, which I can highly recommend - the most comfortable helmet I've ever worn, and probably the safest too - both due to the thumbwheel fastening mechanism.

Be aware that according to research you are almost twice as likely to be involved in a fatal or near fatal collision if you choose to wear a helmet while cycling. For this reason you may want to consider not wearing one.

I have a Giro Havoc (which was the only helmet big enough to fit my huge head when I bought my bike), and recently bought a Bell Alchera when I got my Road Bike and had a free £120 to spend on accessories in Halfords.

Both are extremely comfortable, with removable padding and click/dial adjustment. The Bell sits much lower on my head, but I think that's more design than sizing.

In the end, it realy is down to personal preference - try as many helmets on as you can until you find the one that fits you properly.

For big-heads though, who can never get any of those 'one-size-fits-all' woollen or fleece winter hats to fit, try a Havoc or Alchera.

It's a bit more complicated than that...

Evidence? Even by the usual standards of helmet nay-sayers that's a far-fetched claim.

And just as likely to be (partially or completely) explained by other factors. Because both A and B are true, it does not follow that A causes B (or vice-versa). That's an elementary rule of interpreting research findings.

In any case, the poster asked for reviews of helmets not for an argument about whether helmets are good or not. So Dom - why not take it elsewhere?

Another Bell Alchera user here, I used to wear a Met but find the Bell cooler and with a better fit, this could be due to it's availability in a range of sizes rather than the one size fits all approach.
