Already posted in the bikes and accessories sub forum.

Rather cool but probably impractical.

Any light which is a faff wont get used. Theres a reason handlebar mounted lights have remained the option most turn to imo... with dynamos being the next.

It's amazing he's managed to get pledges of over $50,000 for some flimsy looking gimmicky lights that cost over $200.

I assume pledges on that website don't actually have to be backed with cold hard real cash?

The pledges are paid up if the funding target is reached - a pledge is made with a credit card, and the amount is charged to it on a set date if the target has been reached. If it hasn't, the pledger pays nothing.

I think it is cool, and I don't see why it would be impractical necessarily. Expensive? Perhaps, but all new toys are expensive. A faff? Once fitted, I don't see why they would be. I wouldn't use them as single lights, of course, but I love the slightly Tron effect they gave the bike. I think a lot of people would like them, just as clever bling - and a lot of people who like bling would have $200 to splash out. There are plenty of very expensive gimmicks I would baulk at - anything that claims to shave a few grams off your bike, for example, while shedding a hundred pounds from your wallet....

Good luck to him.

I like 'em a lot, but think $200 is a little steep!

What they need to do is have them made under license by a mass-manufacturer, then they'll be affordable for all!

I assume that would be an ultimate goal, but I guess you have to start small.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
$200 for a pair of lights which claim to be the only lights you will ever need isn't excessively steep - many people on here will have forked out £100 for a hub dynamo or £70 for a front light for riding on unlit roads.

Looking at the video the main problem seems to be that not enough light is thrown far enough forward to ride safely at a decent lick.

Yup, I really like the look of them, and could be tempted, but I can't see they'll ever be the only pair of lights you'll need, especially if you need lights to see by, rather than to been seen with.

Not to mention that it looks like it's not exactly a 5 minute job to switch them between bikes. I'd need at least 4 pairs

$200 for a pair of lights which ARE the only lights you will ever need certainly isn't excessively steep, but I would say that lights that just make a bit of your wheels glow and don't really illuminate your way are most certainly NOT the only lights you'll need. I'd still want a strong light on my bars to illuminate the road, and something around my back to make me more visible. Probably some smaller ones on my head too. And once I've got those, I don't really need these ones on my wheels.

If this was Dragon's Den, and I was a Dragon, I'm out.
