Reynolds 501 hybrid frame; kickstand crushed chainstays. Scrap or keep?

Hi all,

Got a Reynolds 501 hybrid frame in the shed that I was thinking of chucking together as a cheap pub bike or runaround with a few bits from the spares bin.

A kickstand installed by a previous owner and clamped way too tight caused what looks to be considerable damage, though I'm hoping it's not too catastrophic.

What do you think guys, way too damaged, unsafe and scrap, or build into a pub/spare commuter run-around for occasional use?

Yup, all intact, bar slight damage to the right lug.

I’d ride it - especially as it will be used as a ‘hack’, and not expected to strain itself. There will likely only be you and the beer on it, so . . .

Id paint with galvanizing paint and then top coat!

I’ve seen worse and taken it for a long ride.

Fleshwound. I'd check to see if you can ride it no handed (whilst sober) to make sure the entire rear triangle's not got bent.

Glad to read the consensus is to build it up rather than scrap it. I'll get the bare metal prepped and sealed, raid the spares box for the rest of the build, and get it rolling again as a pub runaround.

Will definitely give the hands-free test a go (strictly on the way to the pub, not back) to check the tracking!
