3 Ribbles at my house, but their combined value don't hit that!!
1. 'Blue' 7005 'Winter' bike (as they call it)
Tiagra'10', Vision Team 30 wheels
2. CGR (in original colour)
Tiagra '10', hydraulic discs, Aksyium wheels
3. Gran Fondo
Ultegra '11' (inc. wheels), Ritchey WCS; bars, stem, seatpin

The prices certainly aren't to pay the wages, of the regular workers at least. I had an interview last year for a position at the Walton Summit site, and I would have loved to take the job, but the money on offer wouldn't have paid my regular bills I'm afraid

The above bike is the team Ribble edition will they sell many who knows. It won't be the core market or best seller but having something that stands out and get people talking then it's worth a whole lot more.
Ribble just like any business has to change or die it may not be for everyone but it's how it is. Will the chargers work well time will tell have they priced some out the market maybe. They still sell good value bikes along with the high end. I love my sportive the price was right , the fit was right and the service was right. Will I use them again ? Yes if they turn out to the best option at the time. They may not be for everyone which is fine plenty of other people happy to take your money. If they are right for you then go for it and stuff what people think

Nope. Frame should be the same, bar the colour, but everything else is different.
I am not totally sure of any other reason other than marketing why the team would be racing on endurance bikes with mudguard mounts.

They are trying to position themselves up market where margins are better so are moving away from the budget end. The problem is will the punters be willing to pay top money for what is perceived as a value brand?
They might have done better to create a sub brand under a new name like Toyota did with Lexus and VW with Maybach. Look how long it took Skoda to move away from their image.

Like a lot of top end bikes marketed to amateurs these days it strikes me as just different for the sake of it.
I always had the idea of old that ribble sold economically priced bikes to the audax crowd. A few years since i bought anything from them as they no longer sell bits i am interested in. The way cycling has gone, perhaps inevitably. I can see a fair few near mint examples of these sort of bikes being sold off at mega discounts in a few years.
Yes, simple decent bikes for riding along mucky north western lanes. I see a lot of the older ones in those parts.

Planet X is the new Ribble, their frames and bikes are fantastic VFM.
And as Ian Smith said earlier in this thread, Ribble's range of stuff has dropped to a fraction of what it used to be with many brands and parts no longer available. Indeed I posted a thread on that not so long ago. Once the fashion cyclists find a new big thing and disappear they may regret deserting their traditional customer base.

Yes - hell I remember (and it wasn't too long ago) when Ribble sold a fair range of decent racks and luggage.
Planet X isn't much good for bits though. Can't remember seeing a single Shimano bit.
Much of my component buying these days is with those sensible Germans Rose.

I once got a bargain pair of Shimano hubs from PX but their stock and pricing policies are a mystery to me, I also bought some Pacenti rims from them, that were less than half price than any other stockists on the internet, but to go back and buy they same from them at the same price is very unlikely.
They have some real bargains, but as you say they are not a reliable source for mainstream bits and pieces.

I thought mine was great, it (& I) had no problems keeping up with some of the local triathlon club, even with them on fancy carbon bikes, with 'deep-rim' wheels
And, outclimbing them.... or was that my abilities, at the time??
The only downside on 'mucky Yorkshire lanes' is the lack of clearance, as a '23' is all that will easily fit with mudguards
I've been out on mine, thinking I was either tired, or the headwind was worse than it actually was

I bought a pair of wheels a while ago, to replace the standard (I was trying to keep it as cheap as possible, when I got it) pair on the 'blue', which were Rodi Airtime???
I was in the Worsborough branch (first to close) of 'X', & they had some Vision 'Team 30', at a very decent price of the time, of £149!!!
They were possibly mis-priced, as they alsowere on Evans website at about £299 ( someone had told me)
Hence, yes , I like Planet X prices

I have 'M' jerseys that would fit over one of my fleece jackets, conversely I have a 'L' jersey, that I struggle to get a long-sleeve tshirt under!!
yes, and that means you can rarely hit the free postage level as it's hard to stock up on stuff.
I have had some nice stuff from PlanetX though - things that come to mind - Altura compact backpack for town wandering, Podsac stuff bags, cheap good tyres.
I keep a note of the price of stuff I'm interested in - but as the prices of some drop through the floor the others inevitably go through the ceiling

That's the same everywhere though. I only now buy jerseys and jackets from retailers who list the size of chest, length of sleeves an back. Sam_cycling on ebay are great for that and specialise in retro clothing. Anything described just as S, M or L is pot luck as to whether it will fit, turn you blue in the face or hang like an aircraft hanger over a Vulcan bomber.
