He might be getting more sympathy if his injuries really were as bad as reported.

They'll have to put the other side of his face on the bargain bucket now.

He's in two threads! How is this possible when he nearly died?

Don't beat yourself up about it. Posting cartoons about what a twat Bono is are always fun. I just couldn't rejoice about him getting smashed up on his bike in Central Park.....whether or not he was wearing a helmet. Would his accident have been met with more friendly comments if he was wearing a buff?
If he was wearing Hi-Viz, he would obviously have deserved to die.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
The fact that the rider has a few bob and the bike was a former team Katusha machine has certainly changed how some of his fellow cyclists feel about what amounts to quite an old man having an unfortunate and hefty crash. There's a definite tang of jealousy coming through on this thread from a few contributors. Most Bourgeoisie.
Bollocks.

It's the self-righteous and completely unjustifiable "a helmet saved my life" tosh that he's put into the ether.

There's nothing self righteous about it, it's his belief that his helmet helped and he's entitled to believe that if he wants. It could be self righteous if he'd become a spokesman for a campaign to get everybody wearing helmets by law say, which I don't think he has. So I'm sticking with jealousy.

What tosh. No-one is "entitled" to believe utter crap.

The subtext is "Aren't I good? I don't take unnecessary risks, unlike those nobber bike riders who ride without helmets".

Here's an example of the news coverage:
http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-37198354

"In a post on the Virgin website, the 66-year-old said: "I was heading down a hill towards Leverick Bay when it suddenly got really dark and I managed to hit a sleeping policeman hump in the road head on.

'Completely destroyed'
"I really thought I was going to die. I went flying head-first towards the concrete road, but fortunately my shoulder and cheek took the brunt of the impact, and I was wearing a helmet that saved my life."

That's self-righteous - the assertion that he did everything right and nothing wrong. It doesn't "suddenly get really dark" in the Carribbean. He was going too fast for the conditions, and didn't slow down for a bit of the road where, presumably, overhanging vegetation cast a dark shadow. The fact that he's a mega celebrity and people will listen to what he has to say adds to his responsibility not to talk nonsense.

My, you're quite aggressive aren't you srw?
People are allowed to have faith in whatever they want, witness the size of religion for proof that evidence isn't required for a belief.

Your "subtext" in your post is entirely your invention by the way, made up only to support your own belief. Rather disingenuous at best.

Many devoutly religious people would disagree with you - but that's a completely different discussion.

You did read the quote, didn't you? If you'd like to point me to the place where he acknowledges that by riding too fast on a dodgy road where he couldn't actually see what was coming he contributed to his own downfall I'll withdraw the accusation of "self-righteousness".

Are you sharing the stick with jonny jeez?
Well, it seems many people are sharing that particular stick Reg...even @User liked the initial comment (despite his later confusion)

But hey, don't let that stop you from listening to another opinion, you crack on and feed your self esteem if that's what you need to get through the day.

Just carry on resorting to insult when you have nothing of value to add.
