I believe some of the bigger rickshaw hire companies do participate in a voluntary registration/licensing system, though obviously this would be better if universal.

I trust that by "vehicle" you meant to say "motor vehicle". Bicycles are already vehicles anyway, and let's not forget it :-)

They are called the LPOA but they are revamping there selves at the moment so there web site is down.

The current issue that is currently pissing off Mr Plod is the electric engines many of these things have recently fitted, which does make them a 'vehicle' rather than a bike

They are trikes, and unladen, weigh not a huge amount, so can be legally fitted with electric motors.

You are right they can be fitted to trikes but the weight limit for a bike is 40kg and a trike is 65kg. If they are over the limit they need to be tested like a car or a bike and I do not know of any bike or trike that can meet those standards with a motor over 24w. I have been told that there are some trikes in London have 500w motors on which buy what I know about the motors the trikes (depending on which manufacturer has made the trike) The trikes will be over 160kg unladen then add the rider and 2 or 3 blokes. I know of No bicycle disk brakes that can stop that fast at 20+ mpa.

LOL - quite funny didn't know about that and rather suprisingly (not) don't remember that being reported in their propoganda organ. No fan of the LTDA as you might gather, and I always find it a great comfort that two-thirds of London Cab Drivers don't join!
