That excellent route planning tool has just downgraded the entry level, for free, service. So, which of the other services have reader's approval.

The new ridewithgps interface is worse than the old one, confusing layout and more processor intensive. However it's still better than mapmyride.

What can you no longer do for free on ridewithgps that you could do previously? I can't see any difference in the mapping functionality on offer; I can still create and edit routes, and still export them.

There are a few of us who use Bikeroutetoaster to plan routes. Not sure how it compares to ride with gps though.

The main difference I've found is that ridewithgps shows you the elevation profile as you create your route. When I last used bikeroutetoaster you had to click onto another page to see the elevation.

I like gpxeditor.co.uk
OK it still lacks a bunch of stuff the more sophisiticated sites have, but all the basics are there.
And it was developed by a former CC member.

Ditto.

I've just had a quick play with the new RideWithGPS mapping and it doesn't look to me to have functionally changed. I usually use BikeRouteToaster for ride planning though.

Edit: I note their paid for content includes segments, just like Strava.

Functionally it looks pretty much the same. I thought they might be giving a new user interface to be "responsive", but I just tried logging on on my Galaxy SII and it was a PITA.

I've not used BRToaster in year but that is definitely advantage. I've created routes and thought, what happens if I go down here, a flat/hill and instantly see :smile: Tweaked route to make them flatter for forum rides or hillier for personal rides :thumbsup:

Since the change the moving time for a ride is now longer than the moving time indicated by Garmin Connect for the same ride.
In the past RideWithGPS always had a shorter moving time when compared to Garmin.

I've had a look at the tcx file output. There is an issue with altitude.

The old version output like this

<Trackpoint>
<Time>2013-05-21T15:55:01Z</Time>
<Position>
<LatitudeDegrees>55.96739</LatitudeDegrees>
<LongitudeDegrees>-3.9723200000000003</LongitudeDegrees>
</Position>
<AltitudeMeters>112</AltitudeMeters>
<DistanceMeters>18989.434592582118</DistanceMeters>
</Trackpoint>

The new version

<Trackpoint>
<Time>2013-08-09T11:47:56Z</Time>
<Position>
<LatitudeDegrees>55.845375</LatitudeDegrees>
<LongitudeDegrees>-4.067902</LongitudeDegrees>
</Position>
<DistanceMeters>9602.347654444915</DistanceMeters>
</Trackpoint>
