I have recently picked up a 2nd hand Ridgeback Velocity which is replacing my MTB for daily commutes. I have noticed as well as taking full guards and a rear rack it also takes a front rack, traditional pump and 2 bottle cages.

Does any1 have experience of touring on one of these as im quite tempted to use it instead of my MTB on my next trip to the Netherlands.

Many thanks and happy new year
Gary

Why not? If you like the bike, it's comfortable and carries your stuff, then go for it.

Any bike can be a touring bike!! Take it on tour!! Much better to get out there and have some fun than worry about whether or not it's a tourer...unless you want us to tell you that you need a tourer so you can buy a new bike ;)

Ridgeback Velocity, that is what I've got, I have ridden it 60 miles in a day albeit without panniers etc, it is supremely comfortable, and the gears are great for hills, I would say go for it. I am still planning to ride to Switzerland this year and will probably use this bike.

Cheers, Tim

I took the same bike touring in Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg last summer for a month (first time touring too). Its very light and comfortable - easy to spend hours pedalling to you hearts content. I would recommend upgrading the saddle to something more comfortable as the standard one is very narrow and hard.

Thanks for all your feedback. Since originally asking the question, i have done 240miles back and forwards to work and I am very happy with it. This bike sits right in the middle of my MTB and my race bike so fits the bill perfectly. Im looking forward to the summer when i can take it on an adventure.

Im glad that you enjoyed it when you toured Benelux B1bass.
And i hope you have a great time in switzerland later this year Tim .
