Riding buddies near Cambridge/Newmarket?

Family illness means I'm going to be spending a lot of time in the Cambridge area over the next few weeks (Bottisham to be precise) and I'm going to be in need of some stress busting rides! Anyone fancy joining me for some moderately paced rides between 15 and 50 miles? In theory any day, any time would work at the moment

You could always organise a weekend ride.

It's not too far from me, and I'm sure some nutters enthusiastic individuals might consider riding up from London.

Funny that, Adam - I was thinking the same thing on the way in this morning...A couple of years ago, I rode from LHR to Newport, to rendezvous with the Bromley Cyclists (well, we joined up eventually  ) and it was a lovely ride to the meet, through Henry Moore territory and a lot of decent scenery. After the 'official' ride, we set off as Ian's peloton for a breeze past Stanstead and adjacent to "Tottenham Hotspur FC", arriving into London in good time. It was one of those days, one of those rides...very satisfying...the two Andys too - we could almost have carried on for another 24 hours or so...

It's only 55 miles from HPC and with a tailwind like Sunday it would only take 3.5 hours. Although riding home afterwards could take considerably longer, if it doesn't blow you back to Norwich first

I'm sure MartinT will volunteer shortly, especially as he's at home recovering from yesterday

Maybe you guys could ride down, I'll meet you for lunch, then we could cycle back together? I'm basically going between cambridge and london 2 or 3 times a week at the moment so I could make one trip by bike instead of the train. I just need to get the results of Mum's MRI tomorrow before I make any definite plans - and swap my pub bike for the road bike! Good news is the rest seems to have fixed my knee twinge!

Maybe not what you're thinking of but an apparently nice sunday morning ride, I know people who do go on these rides but I've never been, with various levels can be had with the Cambridge (Town & County) Cycling Club. There also used to be a Triathlon ride advertised on their calendar most Saturdays but it doesn't seem to be present now.

Scuse me? Recovering? I'm in fine shape I'll have you know!

Anyway, why don't we pick a day with little wind so it's easy both ways. 7.30 start, into Cambridge by 11. Bit of a ride, early lunch about 12.30, back in London by 6? Sounds a reasonably good day out but it would have to be dry. Don't fancy being near the Fens in windy and wet.

Abs and Ian have penciled in the last weekend of the month to do their February 100 mile ride, and Abs has talked about doing a Cambridge ride before.
Could combine all three in one ride.

We'll draw straws to decide who has to carry Bec's luggage back to London

That could work! Hopefully won't be too much luggage - I'll be living here for the next month or so while mum recovers from surgery. I'll be having the occasional day in London to de-stress and see friends so I'll try to make one of them a Sunday!

Ok

I've already got a route mapped out. I'll drop the links down later this evening. Either day is good for me but I'll go with the flow. Lunch at the Fort St George on Jesus Green/Midsummer Common?

Edit: and there is a nice bit in the middle of the route for a break. Pub n local shops etc.

Thanks for the link. I'll definitely check them out - I think their touring/intermediate rides would be ideal

Make it Saturday & I'd be interested (unless you lot can manage a later start, as on Sunday the earliest I can make it into London is 9...!). The other week's ride looked great....

Superb - not been to the Fort St George for nearly 25 years! I expect they've done it up since then.
I'm not committed to anything yet so either day could work for me. Marginal preference for the Saturday if we need to vote.

Saturday would be a nice change, then I would have a recovery day on Sunday rather than getting up early to go to work.
