Riding over cattle grids

I was out riding the other day and came across some cattle grids. I was out to ride across but suddenly wondered if my road bike could handle it. I thought the front wheel might get stuck or maybe I might puncture. So I got off and carried the bike across. I assume I am being irrational in thinking this?

I just ride straight over them. Keep as square as possible to them and don't go slow, I also keep my weight to the back of the bike. Never had an issue. If you don't feel confident riding over them there is no shame walking though.

Hate the buggers. The new forest in particular is littered with them.

I've never managed to convince myself whether fast or slow is better, but I do go slow when it's wet as they can become very slippy.

If the bars are rounded then straight over at speed, don't slow down and don't stop. If squared off at the top it's a judgement call, but usually the same. If there are missing bars then walk it.

A cattlegrid is not like a series of deep potholes as someone said above more like a series of shallow ones.

I generally get off or ride round them if they are there but that's probably a confidence thing.

I just stare at the rail that runs in the direction of the road. It isn't very wide but wide enough to ride on it. That way, you don't feel anything as you avoid all the bars going across.

The ones that are local to me are usually attacked at speed & bunny hopped over. If I were riding somewhere unfamiliar I would consider walking around/over.
