Having a pretty good week of cycling down here in Provence, and following advice from a couple of guys on here, we rode the Nesque Gorge close to Mont Ventoux today. So glad I was given the heads-up on this route, it was absolutely stunning. We started at the village of Monieux and basically did a 23km each way, there and back route to Ville-sur-Auzon. Perfect conditions, with bright sun in the sky and a comfortable temperature. While we were in the area we recce'd Mont Ventoux in the car, which we will be riding tomorrow (Wednesday). It was fine until Chalet Reynard 6km from the summit, where the wind became very strong. Freezing dew was clinging to the snow marker posts and the barrier at the summit at the start of the road down to Malaucene was closed due to frost on tarmac. I would estimate the constant wind speed at the summit was around 80-90kmh, so I'm hoping the improved forecast for tomorrow's ascent proves accurate.
