Just come back from a cycling holiday from Bolzano to Venice in Italy, had the great pleasure of riding approx. 10km with Marino Basso the multi stage winner of the TDF, Giro, Vueleta and also former world champion. Was riding with our group and as he came alongside I mentioned to him his bike was lovely (a Basso bike) when he started chatting in Italian, after around 5 mins of not understanding him, we caught up to our Italian guide who knew him personally chatted for a little while before stopping to chat to all our group and have photos taken. We then carried on for a good while longer until he turned off for home. Got to say what a pleasure to ride with a great man who didnt have to take time out, thoroughly enjoyed riding with him and just goes to show not all famous folk have got ego's bigger than the moon!
