Oh Gawd, 2026 is turning into 2016!. We've lost Penelope Keith, Richard Head, Sam Neill....now another hero from my 70's childhood has gone...... RIP Bill.

In any given year we will sadly say goodbye to dozens, if not hundreds, of talented people that we have known and loved.

That's life, so to speak.

I only found out relatively recently about his comedy exploits, having only known him as a bird enthusiast growing up.

Rightly or wrongly I get the impression that he wasn't quite as celebrated as he should have been really, which seems a shame.

I wish they wouldn't automatically list the the age of a deceased elderly celebrity in the news headlines. Can't help but automatically compare it to the similar age of loved ones and can be upsetting, can't they just leave it in the details for ones who are interested to read/listen about, rather than thrust the info on oversensitive souls like myself.

i never got on with "The Goodies" (too slapstick for my personal tastes) but the work Bill Oddie did after the Goodies was commendable and something I admire.

Based on reports I heard about his departure from Springwatch I felt the BBC treated him unfairly.

The Goodies suffered mainly from being so obviously cheap. I guess we had lower expectations of production standards then. It was obvious that 3 guys were given a week and a budget of a fiver to make a whole series.

Even though it never got repeats it did give us a few things that have lasted the test of time, like Ecky Thump, the Funky Gibbon and Kitten Kong.

It was also sometimes surprisingly political. I remember they did a satire on apartheid, where jockeys were discriminated against because they were small (apart-height). Probably would be a bit cringe making to watch now but their hearts were in the right place.

True fact: When I was at school, my friend Julian's next door neighbour knew Bill Oddie's dad.
