Sad - a true legend of the game
I remember a TV coaching thingy with him and Ryan Giggs a while ago - when Ryan Giggs was a big star at Man United
There was a group of young lads that were clearly thinking "Ryan Giggs - my Hero - who is the old guy???"
and with an attitude that "the old guy" can;t know much
Until they did a think about headers
as a demo the kids were told to act as defended at the goal - and one of them was goalie
Giggs took the ball down the wing and crossed it to Charlton from the line
at an advanced age (to teh boys!) Charlton rose gracefully into the air and slammed the ball into the top corner of the net with his head
The boys looked staggered

It’s the Manchester Derby next week so I’d expect a minute‘s tribute, hopefully applause rather than silence. He’ll get a decent send-off either way from both sets of fans. There’ll be a few eejits but they’ll get short shrift I hope.
