A true gentleman of the game and that rare thing, a successful English manager. He will be greatly missed.

;)

How much does it cost to Oldham?
Indeed. RIP Bob. He even got to see England beat Germany at St. James' Park.

Sad like BUT lets not forget that he was vilified by the same papers that will congratulate his life as the England manager !

A mate of mine is a Geordie and his sister works in corporate hospitality at St James's Park. 2 seasons ago she was with Bobby Robson in the corporate suite, taking to some fatcat. At one point Bobby looked up at the TV monitor and saw himself being interviewed on Sky TV. He turned to my mate's sister and said 'Is this live?'

they printed a story Terry Butcher had told them about Robson at Ipswich. He'd been asked by a wee boy if he had to sign loads of autographs every day. 'Hundreds and hundreds son' he replied. Robson walked off leaving the wee boy with Butcher. Butcher apparently looked down at the wee boy's autograph book and it had 'Best wishes, Bobby Hundreds' on it.

I was in a resturant in Gateshead around 5 years ago (I think), in walks a crowd of people and Bobby Robson is one of them. I actually got to speak to him at the bar, told him we were there for the wifes Birthday and he made a point of going over to her a wishing here well. A moment I will never forget.
He was clearly in ill health then, and it was a shame to see such a giant of the football world suffering. is battle is at an end RIP
