My 5 month old Conti 4 season has a big hole in the side.....just spotted the bulge before it exploded. Patched it and used a piece of sand paper to botch a repair, managed to do a site visit and home (12 miles) - tyre now in bin.

Wiggle have kindly realised my predicament and sent me a £5 off voucher - so should be able to get another 4 Season for £25.99....

Bad luck!

Conti 4 season are my commuting tyre of choice and I haven't had any aggro with them. Pretty much bomb proof.

Sounds like you got a Conti 2 seasonish.

Must have hit something - lots of debris yesterday. Could put my little finger through the hole.

Luckily, I'd kept an old Conti 4 Season, so that's back on for now. Great commuting tyres.

Thats the tyre I wanted but couldnt get hold of (went for the standard ultra gators instead on the new bike or whatever the next model down is called).

Must have been a nail to put that size of hole in it. Unless someone tried to stab yer tyre..

I had to ditch one a couple of weeks ago. Had a puncture and when I inspected the tyre to find the cause, found it to be a cut across the width of the tread and going through the casing.

I've buggered the odd tyre by comng into contact with curbs at speed

Fossy doesn't go fast enough to inflict that kind of damage, now he's gone all sensible with his rack and panier,he'll be getting gears next

Tynan has rack and pannier

and mudguards

and it all still goes fast if you pedal hard enough for long enough

About ten years ago I got a job lot of Panasela Tour Guard tyres.
I think the only reason they were cheap is SJSC had bought up all the stock of a closing down E-retailer and had hundreds of them

I'm now down to the last set, but managed to get a decade of cycling out of them all, very good tyres so if anyone sees another box going for about £50 drop me a line and they'll keep me going for another decade or so.

Doesnt the rubber start to degrade after all that time? Even in storage?

2000 miles.......... but with Panniers - so all weight on back of bike. The rear has worn much more quickly now I've moved to panniers.......... got a year out of the last rear.

After three punctures in two weeks it looked like my Specialised Armadillos were coming to the end of their life (about 3,000 miles), so have ordered a couple of Conti GP4000S tyres. Hopefully I'll get at least a year out of those.
