RIP Cyclist, killed in Southampton on 10th July 2013

Sadly a cyclist was killed recently in Southampton. It was on Thomas Lewis Way- a stretch of road that I and most other cyclist here avoid. No idea precisely what happened in the crash but vehicles tend to treat the road like a motorway so I'm not surprised a cyclist has been killed. I tend to agree with the following comment from a Daily Echo user,

Thomas Lewis Way should be a safer cycle route than Portswood Road, it is much wider for the most part (except at the two sets of traffic lights between St Denys Rd and the Shell station), straighter and has fewer junctions, the problem is that though it has a 40 mph speed limit far too many motorists choose to ignore it and because of it's width will even overtake despite oncoming traffic, time for plod to get the cameras out methinks.

My thoughts are with the young lads family.
