Iirc he got into comedy via Stephen Fry who hired him to fix up his house. I might have got those details wrong but j read something along those lines in Fry's book.

A great actor, writer and director with over 100 film and television appearances to his name, his theatrical career was similarly busy and he was a regular actor on radio too. He wrote a few plays as well including The Revenge, a ground-breaking 30-minute radio play totally without dialogue performed by Sachs.

A great career, a nice man, a sad loss.
