I was surprised he was still alive tbh. I remember him most as Wolfie Smith's girlfriend's father in Citizen Smith, which was odd as she was only in the first series while her parents were in all of them iirc. I think he was an underrated actor. I watched him as Tulkinghorn in the 1980s Bleak House a year or so ago, and was really impressed.

His turn as Nicky's dad in Our Friends in the North stuck with me and was the first thing I thought of when I heard earlier, a real actor with a varied repertoire. Looked good for 90+ too. RIP
