Sorry to hear that Fluffy.

My parents were dog lovers and always took the deaths of their dogs very hard. Each time they said they couldn't go through it again, but after a while when the pain had diminished they'd eventually get another dog.

The trouble is, the difference between a dog's life expectancy and a human's. You know as a dog owner you will have to go through that loss maybe 5 or 6 times. It's tough.
