Has anyone got this efficient and fast response from the police after you got hit as a cyclist?

Forget your helmet cameras, your witnesses, continuously badgering the police and your cycling organisation lawyers. These just might get somewhere if you are lucky.

All I really need to do is become famous.

Yes... but only because it was a police van that hit me.....

It's an injury incident with broken ribs. Big the evidence is there they would aim for a prosecution, but one way or another it'll be the CPS's call, either directly or by following their charging guidelines.

In this instance 'reported for summons' means the driver wasn't arrested so can't be charged, but is off to court anyway.

why do the media use "in colision with" instead of "driven into"! or sadley in some cases "mowed down by" or "run over from behind and killed by"

To be fair, in the early stages, they don't know. Yes, we assume, (and are often right) that the driver is at fault, but there cyclists who ride into vehicles.

After all, if the driver pulled out of a side road leaving nowhere to go, and the cyclist t-boned them, then the cyclist will have collided with them. Driver's fault, but still the cyclist hitting the car.

And a while back, a woman in York cycled hard into the back of a parked car. It does happen.

I think (well hope) that once things come to court ( and there's the hard part) the circumstances get reported more clearly.

I hope the courts make an example of her. I know i want a punishment before she's even been tried but if her sentence is severe compared to that of someone who collides with someone non famous then so be it. If it highlights the need for better understanding, better attitudes and better awareness from these dimwits then she should be made an example of!! Wrong place at the wrong time is a fashionable statement now when someone is a victim of crime or just damn bad motoring. Well let's have some "wrong place at the wrong time"on our side this time. "Sorry love, but you hit the TdF winner and most famous cyclist in Britain, so we're going to make an example of you"! Sounds good to me"!

While Wiggo has recently become a national icon, we should consider Shane Sutton who had a crash within 24 hours of Bradleys with little coverage accept at the end of the Wiggins pieces. Bleeding on the brain isn't good.

Shane's had more influence with British cycling then Bradley has, the difference is Shane doesn't ride professionally.

Actually i'm hoping for the opposite.
see if the courts treat this like any other case of car vs cyclist we'll just expect her to get a slap on the wrist. with luck the papers will go into a frothy mouthed print run and we can get some more public onto the side of reform in the way we deal with said cases or at least stop the bloody leniency.

It's a tricky one. I don't want her treated more harshly because she hit a household name and not Joe Bloggs, but I do hope she is punished, otherwise it sends out a pretty bad message. Sometimes things aren't black and white.

I was just thinking the same thing, having been wiped out by a car driver back in September and suffering a fractured scapula, soft tissue injuries and a damaged knee that required an arthroscopy to clean it out. OK so not that serious but enough to get Police involvement. However some 8 or more weeks later the Police finally took my statement and even though they have CCTV evidence told me the decision to put it to the CPS is with the roads policing department and the driver most likely will get offered a course.

I had a speed awareness course and a fine of £85 for doing 34mph in a 30 in my car, yes I was guilty and took it on the chin, no complaints, but surely that isn't as bad as knocking someone off their bike and putting them in hospital?

Speeding fines are the bread and butter of policing the roads. Sit in a lay by aim the thingy at a car, clock the speed and bingo: no court appearance no proof needed, when you compare this with the incidents above only giving out parking tickets could be easier. I have been forced into ditch when sideswiped by an oncoming car at night, squeezed between car and kerb etc. The only time I got any satisfaction was when I was 'doored' and I got up off the road and took the matter into my own hands (so to speak).

Umm ... something like this? Anybody with tendencies to apoplexy should NOT click.

But Cath Burrows is "in anguish", "devastated", "shattered" ................ ffs, the cyclist's getting the blame again. You couldn't make it up ... but the *** could.

we can get some more public onto the side of reform in the way we deal with said cases or at least stop the bloody leniency.
Something tells me ... not yet

I would love to know about the "Cycling as a main thought into new road junctions instead of an afterthought" idea.

I have plenty of roads near me where they have been relayed and the old ASZ has been scrapped. There isnt enough cycle lanes in NW as the council seems to just expect every cyclist to use the coastal path.

If there was more cycling infrastructure on the roads then we would have comments in our local paper about "Cyclists on paths", "Cyclists nearly knocking down pedestrians on shared path" and "Dog walkers with dogs on leads across path".
Recently the Denbighshire and Conwy Cycling Rights Representative has commented saying that people need to consider the safety of cyclists. This arguement is going on for ages and I doubt it will stop.
