Perhaps a nice new initiative would be to force companies who dig up the road to employ people to stand there with stop/go signs.

Might get a few people into work, and might make companies hurry up their roadworks a bit considering they would have to employ a chap on at least minimum wage for 24 hours a day while the road is dug up...

When people complain about cyclists RLJing they tend to be talking about those who sail through in the middle of a red phase. I see plenty of cyclists doing this, but you hardly ever, ever see a car do that. Cars do plenty of running through on amber and the first half second of red, but it's cyclists who take the piss and go through in the middle of the red phase

I suspect part of the difference is down to the fact that a miscreant cyclist can filter up one side or the other and across. Any motorist who wants to sneak across has to be at the front of the queue, or they are stuck...

I got stuck at a junction today - I wanted to turn right, and I was stuck behind two right turning cars (one of which was in the ASL), and it's a short phase, and there was stuff oncoming which held up the right turning cars, so by the time I was over the line (on the crossing studs), the the lights went to amber. Not wanting to move further into the yellow box and be stuck as the cross traffic started off, I stopped where I was. And the taxi behind me went round me and turned right.... Didn't know what amber meant, apparently....

Amber means not red. Strangely, even red+amber + not red. Cyclist means intheway and doesntpayroadtax.
