I know where my towel is
Unless it was a really silly place to do it where they put other people in danger, I just wouldn't bother making any comments, instead I prefer to lead by example as a sort of silent protest...

I am hoping that by me being stopped and showing that I am obeying the law that drivers will take note that we don't all jump red lights.

I know, so naive, right?

I find it very hard to keep my mouth shut with RLJ'ers or anyone doing something illegal but no one will ever react well to being criticised. They'll either ignore you, shout something offensive back, threaten you or actually hit you.

Although calling them out in front of other people may shame them in to behaving? I dunno. I guess if they RLJ, they don't care about much anyway...

One way I have to deal with it now is to count them, just look at em and shout '3!' (or whatever number you're up to), they'll spend the rest of the day wondering what the hell that was all about ^_^

If you don't think you can handle yourself if a situation like this arises then it's best you leave it. Don't go all shouty at people and not expect any shouty or more back. It just takes one psycho nobber to turn on you and it could get nasty. There are nutters in all walks of life, including a good few on bikes.

I was shaking my head this morning at a few cyclists who'd RLJ'd, when the guy in the car next to me wound his window down and said 'Nice to see some of you know the rules!'
That's my tactic too, a clear shake of the head to show some sort of disapproval, which hopefully others will see.
I've had plenty of chats with fellow cyclists stopped at lights, watching aghast as others just plough on through the lights.

I was once riding through Central London and Kew, it was obvious there was a charity ride on. At Kew bridge lights there was a rider wearing a number who proceeded to run a red light, no blink of an eye from the marshall, but I did shake my head and call him an idiot, as there were a couple just about to step out onto the road.

The gentleman crossing remarked on the fact that I too agreed with him that this particular cyclist was a fool.

Doing it on a charity event as well. :headshake:

Not really worth bothering about. Eventually he will run out of luck. At that point, I would me more concerned for the driver of the vehicle that hits him. Although, they should looking for the un-expected, but we can all be caught out by RLJs.
He obviously has no conscience, no self discipline and would appear to be an arrogant SOAB.
Although, he is obviously a RLJer, can you, hand on heart, say that he hadn't seen that he could do so, safely! Just being Devils advocate.

They call it ''natural selection'...the only down side to this is that some poor sod will cop the guilt, and accusations because idiots like this put themselves in harms way.

I tend to close pass them once the lights have gone green and casually mention that if they want to get to work quicker, they should pedal faster.
I dislike RLJ as much as the next but close passes on a bike are dangerous. One wobble from a pothole from either and you could both be off.

The point is not whether it was actually safe or unsafe. It is not legal and it gives law abiding cyclists a bad name.
I don't disagree. As I said, playing Devils advocate. Yes, it's illegal. But unless plod is about to witness it, nothing will happen. And to be honest, plod would have to be walking towards the RLJer, to get them to stop.
Red light cameras will not work, cos there would be plate to record.
The problem is that stopping RLJ cyclists is next to impossible. Irritating to the law abiding amongst us, but we've got guilty consciences.
