No, it's simply a piece of memory foam which you sit on for a few seconds, then they measure the indentations.

Bit more like etch o sketch or at least the one I sat on was.

What I want to know is are these kind of seats suitable for a road/racing bike?

Hi,

No those hideous contraptions are utterly useless for a road/racing (any) bike.

FWIW a road/racing bike is no fun as a day to day commuter, it isn't what it does.

13 miles a day doesn't require getting kitted out as a road warrior.

When I started I had no problem s with my cheap utility bike (a folder), though
I replaced the saddle on getting it to a cheap decent elastomer sprung model.
No real issues over 3 months building up to 80 miles a week, normal clothing.
( I later discovered at about 20+ miles a day the saddle does have issues.)

The road bike acquired after 3 months caused the first arse issues. Shorts
were bought, but the saddle was too small. 2nd cheap saddle was better
but too soft. The 3rd saddle (still budget) has been fine, it fits well.

It looks narrow but I'd describe it as truncated quite
wide, compared to the original road bikes saddle,
which measures the same width, but simply isn't.
(ts about the same width 2" further back than above.)

rgds, sreten.

i have the £10 padded mfx shorts from sports direct and i think there awesome , really comfy and even after a big ride still comfy

for the OP, if you have a specialised concept store anywhere near you, they offer a 30 day trail of any saddle you buy. In other words, if you have tried it for upto 30 days, you can return it for a full refund or exchange if you don't get on with it. I have found this exceptionally useful and have also found their staff very helpful. Take your bike & cycling shorts with you the day you visit them, and they will fit as many saddles to your bike as you need to try. (and yes I know I am female, but I use male saddles which I find more comfortable and suspect the 30 day exchange period still applies to men as well!)

if the pain is unbearable its likely your not sitting on your sit bones (the pointy bits at the bottom of your pelvis). This is what they measure in the shop. Go get it done, you won't regret it.
