Following on from the https://www.cyclechat.net/threads/s...gns-in-north-wales.264214/page-3#post-7595213 (French sign warning drivers about cyclists) today saw one of these in rural Norfolk:

Norfolk Cycle Warning Sign-01410.jpg

Never seen one before.
Proper long term sign (not the temporary plastic things), built to same standard as the regular Highways signs.

Anybody know what organisation puts up such signs? Whilst I like the idea it's on roads I know well and the road this one is on is pretty trouble free with regard to cars but roads within a few miles nasty when cycling thanks to the cars. ie I'm not convinced they are siting them particularly well.

But I'd be interested to know how many are planned (this one is new and the only one I've seen in the area), etc.

We've had signs like these in Ireland for years in rural roads. No idea if they make any difference. I suppose it can't do any harm to remind people to be aware of cyclists or pedestrians. Sadly, the people who most need to get that message will ignore them anyway.

Doesn't actually answer the question, but hints at it.

Norfolk County Council put up the signs, as with most highway signs in the county. We have the same brand on some signs where NCN1 is crossed by minor roads between the A148 and A1078. Those were put up in response to some near misses by scofflaw motorists ignoring the give way markings across the road. The red "cyclists crossing ahead" triangles were too subtle and don't make clear motorists must yield.
