I'm putting together a pile of crap full suspension thing for winter, that'd been laying about for ages in the shed. I only intend to use it in propper dire conditions though.

I build a half decent MTB in summer and just couldn't get on with the off road thing so sold it on. I probabley could have given it more of a chance. The MTB i was on, was well built but not exactley the lightest thing ever.
We've had some fairly heavy rain here already and you can tell the difference on the road bike, if I have call to grab a handful of brake I've notice the bike twitches about a bit on the wet surface.

I will finish this BSO and keep it on stand by for bad conditions then go about building another decent MTB and give it another chance in spring.

An aluminium hardtail with V brakes isn't too heavy. Mine's about 12.5kg

I have put Schwalbe City Jet slicks on mine, which reduce weight also. Full knobblies are quite heavy.

GT used to do a bike called the ZUM with an MTB frame 26" wheels slick tyres and rigid carbon bladed forks, never really caught on.
