After using double sided mountain bike SPDs for years I just bought some B twin Look Keo copies. They feel great while riding, but getting in and out is going to take a bit of practice...

I use different pedals on my commuter as opposed to my road bike as I tend to have to unclip and reclip when commuting.

In saying that I did find a massive difference between my Keo classic and Keo max pedals in 'hit rate' in getting clipped in first time. The max pedals seemed to lie at a more natural angle. I don't know how the Btwin copies relate to this.

It's harder but the retention is much better. I commute fixed but with MTB SPD but my other road bikes are the old Look Delta. You need extra muscles to unclipped from Carbon Pro and C Record Carbon Looks... Bloody lovely pedals but you are locked in.

I think that's part of the problem, they don't hang consistently. It might improve when the bearings loosen up.

They may well do. I passed my classics onto my son who seems to have less problems with them than I had.

I can't be doing with single sided pedals, pita. M520 on 3 of my bikes. Having walked around quite a bit today, negotiated steps etc, I know why I stick to SPD

Each to their own however

My commuter does relatively short distances when compared to my road bike which often does 100km+ rides. In the latter I prefer the bigger platform that Look Keo cleats give. I agree thought that the cheaper single sided pedals can be a pain to orientate correctly.

I had A600s not cheap at all. They were always the wrong way round! I've also never found a pair of road shows that fitted comfortably! Even when doing 100km rides, there's often walking for me

Never tried the A600 pedals so cant comment on them. My commuter has Mavis Crossroc SL pedals as I personaly found the Shimano SPD ones (M520 and M540) too variable in their release tension. On longer rides, on my road bike, I carry cafe covers in my jersey pocket.

I hear ya. M520 are my favourite. The road bike has keo and commuting on that sucks, even though the bike is fantastic. My commuter has 520 as did my other couple of previous bikes.

Still got regualr pedals on the MTB though as my MTB skills are worse than a lemon tree.

Well, I now have some SPD-SLs as well as B'twin Keo copies.

I can see that they're going to take some practice!

Clipping in and out was so easy with the off-road SPDs, but the road pedals feel better when actually pedalling. I'm going to stop worrying and just hope it becomes second nature eventually!

Since you might start and stop dozens of times a mile when commuting or off-roading, SPDs are the natural choice.

Since you might start and stop only once in two hours when road riding, a road pedal like a Keo is the natural choice especially given its lighter weight and better support.
