The winter months has took it's toll on the roads, l don't know about the roads where you live but the roads around where l live are terrible.. Pots holes that need repairing, cracks across most roads and these are a danger to cyclist's. l'm forever dodgeing these hazards and the damage they can do to the bikes... The goverment are always saying walk or cycling instead of always using your car but don't do anything about the state of the roads to incourage people to use bikes.. We need more cycling paths as the roads are getting more dangerous to use with the state of the roads ..

Use the CTC 'fill that hole' site to report defects. It gets results!

The idea of drafting someone else loses its appeal a bit at this time of year doesn't it (unless they are happy to point them out for you)

Lancashire roads are in a worse state than ever thanks to cutbacks, I haven't seen gully or drain cleaning for months and mud is accumulating along the gutters, there's water flooding everywhere and ice damage all over the place.

Doesn't always work - "thanks! I might've missed it if you hadn't pointed it out", I shouted to the rider just ahead of me as my wheel shook violently ...

East Cheshire isn't good and seems to have little spent on full resurfacing for the last three years. Patch repairs seem to last for two or three months at best. I was particularly p****d off when i noticed that a quiet posh footballers country lane was being done when the commuting roads where knackered to put it mildly.

The roads have needed a massive amount in investment for about 8-10 years now, all I can see in the reasonably immediate future is no money and more potholes

I have to take my hat off to Devon County Council (and I speak as someone who's been sacked by them in the past 12 months) - not perfect by a long chalk, but they seemed to work their socks off trying to get new surfaces down (some of them not brilliant, but at least stopping total break-up) and others redone completely over the Summer. Given that we've got 8,000 miles of roads in the county (that's more than Belgium, apparently), it's no mean feat to keep them in order. It does seem to vary from authority to authority though.

I met 3 LEJOG cyclists last year when I was cycling south of Edinburgh. They said cheshire road surfaces were the worst they had encountered.

I used to moan about Hampshire's roads, then I moven to Sheffield. The roads in the peak district are fine but around town, well, I've put the knobbleys back on my work bike put it that way.

I've just reported a huge pothole on Coldharbour Lane, directly underneath the Loughborough Junction railway tracks. It must be at least a foot across and half as deep.

There is one 'posh' road that's not done - the Oak Road that runs from Mottram St Andrew towards Birtles - came down there - what a mare, holes and debris everywhere ! Oh and Mill Lane by the Golf club is dangerous on the S bends.

Stockport council have openly said they won't repair holes under a certain size (and they are big enough to lose a cycle wheel in).

They are. Totallyfixed was constantly going on about our roads on one of the CC runs - it's much better in Leicestershire !
