Blimey, of course he did. Mr Rodney. Did you have that show in Melbourne?
We got a lot of BBC TV in Australia, all on one station along some ITV content and much local stuff. BBC looks just amazing if you only see about 10% of the output. Very disappointed to find out the rest of it was Crimewatch and Charlie Dimmock4 ('99).

Notes:
  1. Yes, they showed Basil Brush, but I don't think I saw the it in the 60s so a bit confused. Saw it after Return of the L....
  2. BBC content in oz last time I watched seemed to be entirely New Tricks and very old episodes of Top Gear.
  3. point 2 above links back to Bewes via Bolam
  4. She didn't wear a bra or something, and everyone was losing their minds.
  5. I preferred Sebastian the Fox, though it now looks like it is an example of early silent film.

Now I thought it was a 0-0 draw and someone gave it away by telling them he wouldn't reveal the result but there were no goals.

Brings back memories of shift work in the seventies when the three shifts had an unwritten rule that the incoming night shift would not talk about any football results in front of the departing late shift if the highlights were being shown that night.
Reminds me of a story one of the blokes down the local tells (I do hope it's true).

A bunch of regulars went to watch City in some important game or other and were made to promise not to reveal the score to the bar-tender when they returned.

"No, no, no, we promise", he said when they all arrived back, "... two bottles of champagne please"

One of the schools I worked in had a very small theatre attached that the kids used to do Christmas concerts and talent competitions in. A few years ago Rodney Bewes brought his one man show to town and performed there. I distinctly remember him being on his own and cutting quite a sad figure humping his gear from his car into the theatre which was by no means a sellout
RIP Bob.

TBH, Bewes sounds like he might have been a bit irritating.

A Very Private Man is running on BBC 4 Extra at the moment in tribute to Rodney Bewes. I gave it a try yesterday but didn't last. I could have sworn I was listening to What Became of the Likely Lads. Middle class professional with aspirations, hilarity ensues (him, not me). It could be that he was written that way, or that Rodney Bewes was a bit of a one trick pony. Mind you it did have Daphne Oxenford in it, so I was sitting comfortably before it began.
