If I remember correctly there's no engine braking either, so when you close the throttle it doesn't slow down! You need to get on the brakes pretty sharpish.

There'd be less engine braking, certainly. Engine braking is almost entirely down to compression ratio, and w ank els have quite a low CR. Not as low as 2-strokes though.

I think the biggest single factor in the failure of this engine was the name!

Rather like when Mitsubishi tried selling the Pajero in Mexico.
Upside was that my brother in Antigua got a rather nice car at a low price, when Mitsubishi cut their losses by off-loading in the nearest non-Spanish speaking market.
