Rapidly coming to same conclusion - thanks all.
Now the next question....
Carlisle to Kendal
Plotted out route on minor roads running parallel to M6 then cutting across to Kendal on the A685: 52 miles, 2400 ft of ascent (per BikerouteToaster) Possible to do the last bit on quieter roads, but adds quite a bit of height gain.
Then I thought....it could be that some of the fitter youngsters will want to try a more sporting alternative..... how about the Kirkstone Pass
To my surprise this works out as 50 miles and 2600 ft of ascent, so very little overall difference, except most of the height gain in one concentrated few miles.
The two profiles are attached.
Any advice ?
